1. Introduction

Welcome to Workshops by Alan Knox ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we collect, use, and share your information. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding your personal data when you use our workshop platform.

We do NOT sell your personal information to third parties.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • First and last name
  • Password (encrypted and never stored in plain text)

2.2 Workshop Progress and Usage Data

To provide workshop functionality and track your progress, we collect:

  • Which workshops you've purchased or been granted access to
  • Your progress through workshop content (modules, parts, slides completed)
  • Completion percentages and timestamps
  • Quiz responses and interactive exercise data
  • Resource downloads

2.3 Preferences and Settings

To personalize your experience, we store:

  • Display preferences (theme, font, background settings)
  • Email communication preferences
  • Last accessed workshop and position

2.4 Analytics and Usage Information

To improve our platform and content, we collect:

  • Pages visited and features used
  • Time spent on different workshop sections
  • Device and browser information
  • IP address and general location (city/state level)
  • Referral source (how you found our website)

2.5 Payment Information

Payment transactions are processed by Stripe. We do not store your complete credit card information on our servers. Stripe provides us with:

  • Last 4 digits of your card
  • Card type (Visa, Mastercard, etc.)
  • Transaction ID and receipt information

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

3.1 Service Delivery

  • Provide access to workshops you've purchased
  • Save and sync your progress across devices
  • Maintain your account and authentication
  • Process payments and issue receipts

3.2 Communication

  • Transactional emails: Account creation, password resets, purchase confirmations, access issues (you cannot opt out of these)
  • Product updates: Updates to workshops you own, bug fixes, new content additions (you can opt out)
  • Marketing emails: New workshop launches, sales, promotions, educational content (you can opt out)

3.3 Analytics and Improvement

  • Understand how users engage with our workshops
  • Identify which content is most valuable
  • Improve platform features and user experience
  • Optimize workshop content based on completion rates

3.4 Customer Support

  • Respond to your questions and technical issues
  • Investigate and resolve problems
  • Provide assistance with workshop access

4. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do NOT sell your personal information. We only share your information in the following circumstances:

4.1 Service Providers

We use trusted third-party services to operate our platform:

  • Supabase: Database hosting, authentication, and storage
  • Stripe: Payment processing
  • Cloudflare Pages: Website hosting and content delivery

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

4.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.

4.3 Business Transfers

If we are acquired by or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.

5. Your Rights and Choices

5.1 Email Preferences

You can manage your email preferences in your account dashboard or by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. You can opt out of:

  • Marketing emails (new workshops, promotions)
  • Product update emails (workshop updates, new features)

You will still receive transactional emails necessary for account and purchase management.

5.2 Access Your Data

You can view and update your account information, preferences, and workshop progress at any time through your account dashboard.

5.3 Export Your Data

You can request a copy of your personal data by contacting us at workshops@alanknox.com. We will provide your data in a machine-readable format within 30 days.

5.4 Delete Your Account

You can request account deletion through your dashboard (feature coming soon) or by emailing workshops@alanknox.com. Upon deletion:

  • Your account will be scheduled for deletion in 30 days
  • During this period, you can cancel the deletion request
  • After 30 days, your personal information will be permanently deleted
  • Some data may be retained in anonymized form for analytics
  • Financial records are retained for 7 years as required by law

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information:

  • All data is encrypted in transit using SSL/TLS
  • Passwords are encrypted using industry-standard hashing
  • Database access is restricted using Row Level Security (RLS)
  • Payment data is handled by PCI-compliant Stripe
  • Regular security updates and monitoring

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Specific retention periods:

  • Account data: Retained while account is active, deleted 30 days after deletion request
  • Workshop progress: Retained while account is active
  • Activity logs: May be retained in anonymized form indefinitely for analytics
  • Payment records: Retained for 7 years as required by law

8. Children's Privacy

Our services are intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are between 13-17, you may only use our services with parental or guardian permission. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.

9. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used
  • Right to request deletion of your personal information
  • Right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we don't sell data)
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

10. International Users

Our services are operated in the United States. If you are accessing our services from outside the US, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. By using our services, you consent to this transfer.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by:

  • Posting the updated policy on this page
  • Updating the "Last Updated" date
  • Sending an email to registered users (for material changes)

Your continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
